Finlay Brothers was a motorcycle and bicycle repairer and manufacturer in Elizabeth St. Some of their ads are great.

  2. I find it pretty interesting that back then people tended to use their real names for business names. Mathieson and Ripper, Clarke and Numan, etc. Nowadays it seems that abstract names are everyone, Facebook, Microsoft, Apple. I guess it sounds a lot better than Zuckerberg, Gates, and Jobs.

  3. People ran a business on their personal reputation. Sadly not as common now days.

My favourite is the ad, Why Envy Us - The best things in life are free, Fresh Air, Sunshine, Happiness. :)
