[Melb] GA-579 Don't Park in neutral downhill, you have no oil now.

Discussion in 'General Motorcycling Discussion' at netrider.net.au started by brownyy, Apr 12, 2010.

  1. To whoever owns the blue/white Honda Fireblade 600 parked on market street, rego GA579, you have a repair bill.

Some work mates pointed the bike out to me, I went and stood it up for you.

I found it on it's right hand side. You parked in neutral, it rolled forward off the cut side stand (lowered bike I suspect).

I stood it up, and noted your pretty carbon fiber crash knobs didn't have a mark on them, but your fairing has a scratch, and your engine case is cracked (at the clutch pivoty thingo) evident by the puddle of oil under it.

Next time park it in 1st gear noob - the VFR a foot in front of yours wouldn't of been happy if you had of taken it out as well.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

I have photos if you need them for insurance.

I do, on the perfectly flat ground in the corner of my underground car park at work...

    not in public areas though...

Had another look at it, both LHS and RHS duct tail are scratched but and damaged... unless its been down the road already on the LHS, it might of had a car hit it...

Is this in front of the Suncorp building?
I park my bike there aswell everyday. Those parking spots are on a bit of an angle going downhill. Sometimes I just park it straight on the front pavement on Collins st side.
That blue cbr600rr belongs to some asian guy in the building.
His peg does not have a base.
I've seen it fallen before in that spot because his peg stand doesn't have a base. Looks like its snapped off. Last time it fell his mirrors were gone and when it returned it looked like he fixed up the fairings but rear fairing was cracked.

    Poor cbr.
I don't think he is a netrider member though.

Ok, I should elaborate on the fine print... park in neutral in public. What benefit is there to parking a bike in neutral in public?? One absent minded reversing driver and the bike gets knocked on and falls of the side stand. One absent minded park on an unnoticed down hill incline and pain can follow. It takes the same or no effort to leave the bike in gear.

FWIW, when I pull into the garage or anywhere, I pull the clutch in, then put the stand down. If the clutch or side stand switch is working the bike wont cut out then and there - if it cuts out then I know I have an issue. Then I let the clutch out and if the cutsouts are working, the bike will stop. Basically I get to test my safety cut outs and park the bike in it's most stable arrangement in one move. The only time my bike is in nuetral when parked is when it's on a paddock stand or if I forget to put it in gear after moving it manually.

Yep, market street next to the suncorp building.
Yep, no base on side stand - lowered bike???
Yep, rear duct tail damaged both sides but look consistent with a slide (vertical scratches).

I sometimes park outside the suncorp as well, but usually under my other building.

You don't happen to ride a yellow VTR do you?? :-s

    Re: Pics.

No point really, me in my stupid ways only remembered to take photos AFTER I stood it up. Forgot the phone was in my pocket. Sorry...

    Edit, we can re-enact it??

meh! always park it in neutral. if on an incline, front ALWAYS facing slight uphill, rear tire a half a foot or so from curb, side stand ALWAYS on the down hill side, steering lock ALWAYS on.

    Hi Brownyy,

    You mean the yellow VTR750?

Nah, I ride an old green zxr250(dual headlamps).

Notice quite a few Kawasakis parked on that strip.

What bike do you ride if you don't mind me asking.
