Following the death of a Gosford police officer (on the F3) they've decided to ban manned radar on fwys. RBT units in 80kph+ areas are banned as well. Police are still allowed to use mobile radar units, (inside their cars) and will chase down speeding drivers/riders as opposed to walking out onto the road and flagging them down. Source, Ten news (so could all be wrong!) ---- Sounds like a sensible idea to me, because the F3 is a bloody dangerous place; having to walk out and flag someone down while watching all the other cars shit themselves and throw out the anchor because there's a radar unit ahead is not a job I'd like to do. But then I don't really agree with them having to give chase each time either. (also pretty dangerous) I've been driving my car to work on the F3 for over 10 years now, and the more they just let drivers fend for themselves, the better I reckon. As soon as cars see any sign of police, they'll always jam on the brakes with every likelihood of causing the car behind to ram straight up their arse (because the last thing they do is check mirrors) Speed cameras are the only safe, effective option IMO.
