NSW Macquarie Pass damage

Discussion in 'Hazardous Road Condition Reports' started by hornet, Jun 13, 2016.

  1. The Pass was significantly damaged in the recent rains. There are two light-controlled contra-flow sections at and near the second (lower) hairpin as landslip had seriously undermined the uphill lane. There are likely to be in place for a long time, months at least, and I would guess that repairs will run into the millions of dollars.....

  2. Yep went through there yesterday. On the way down if you filter to the front of the lights youll get a clear run to the bottom, suppose that one positive to this this.
Damage didnt look too bad but there are probably underlying stability issues after the torrents of water that would've flow through there.

  3. The landslip AT the hairpin has taken the road surface right up to the white line. I'm guessing that below that there is empty space!!

  4. Yep that the worst of it. Hell of a spot for stability works, its quite a large drop there. Will be interesting to see how they go about it.
There has been talk of upgrading Mac Pass and this might accelerate that but think thats all election talk atm.

  5. The road will be completely closed all next week, the aim is to have the damage to the lower section repaired before the end of the school holidays. Work is planned for twelve hours each day, and extra shifts will be scheduled if necessary to get the work finished.
The road will be closed again in August/September to repair the more extensive damage to the second (eastbound) hairpin.
