Long time Old Rider... Now getting License

Discussion in 'Welcome Lounge' at netrider.net.au started by Gigitt, Nov 4, 2013.

  1. Hi everyone.

Been lurking since 2010 and only now saying hello as I booked in for Pre-Learners in 2 weeks @Clyde NSW.

Been Riding on the farm in the hills and scrub chasing sheep so I should be able to cope with Sydney Roads :p

Looking forward to getting out of the cage once in a while.

Any suggestions for a LAMS bike for a Big bloke whose 6'4"
Have been eyeing out a Kwaka Versys.

  2. Hey Marko, welcome to the tar! And Netrider, at least posting here..

Lots of good feedback here re the Kawasaki....
  3. Hi and welcome Marko.

I dunno a great deal about chasing sheep, but I find it difficult to believe that sheep can be nearly as stupid and vicious as Sydney traffic.

    Have fun and take care.
  4. Welcome! There isn't a limit to the stupidity of sheep, but they aren't normally vicious ;) so maybe halfway there for your typical Sydney peak hour

Does you sheepdog ride up front or behind?

  5. well when your in the hills and you find 3 sheep they go 3 different ways... sheep do dumb things lol good avoidence and anticipating the dumb practice i hope!

Nah dont take to dog with me. dog is like a kid in a candy store more trouble than its worth.

  6. Welcome to the asylum, Versys is a good choice, also check out the BMW F650(y)
  7. I did my pre-learners this week at clyde Mon and Tues night... so Wed lunch time passed my KT and am now Learner licensed.

  8. Welcome and well done on passing your L test :)
  9. Welcome !
  10. Well I bought a bike on Saturday and today during lunch I drove a mate to help me get her home. He rode her from the dealers back to work. After work I drove the car home then bussed it back to work and rode her home.

5 minutes later I was back on her and doing laps of the neighbourhood.

Mate rides a V-Strom 650 and he was very impressed with the Versys LAMS.

Kwikasfaki Versys is a really nice bike.
  11. Glad to hear you're enjoying your new bike :)
  12. Good stuff mate. Is the Versys good fun?

Yeah it has a good riding position for a 6'4" big bloke.
    It is very quick.
Bike is 2 years old and is still very very tight in the engine.

So 2 days in and Milestones reached...

    Day 1:
    - L plates fell off taking it home - fudge it! Screwed new L plate onto LicPlate and 2 more under seat just in case! - Not something you want to happen on Day 1 LOL but sh*t happens
    - Annoyed the neighbourhood by riding around in the back streets over and over again - Check

    Day 2:
    - Rode to work - Check
    - Rode with work mate to get Pork Rolls for Lunch :) - Check
    - Rode with mate after work to another mates house in the city
    - Riding through peak hour in Sydney City traffic- Check.
    - Solo Night Ride home - Check.

So much more fun than pushing sheep in a paddock

  14. Didn't hear any bleating? haha

I'm 6'1 and went for the GS500, great size for me.

Good idea to put a few Ls under the seat, I did the same with my P plates. You don't really want to be caught without one!
