Lewis Hamilton fined for speeding in France

Discussion in 'The Pub' at netrider.net.au started by vic, Dec 19, 2007.

  1. Formula One sensation Lewis Hamilton had his driving licence suspended for a month after being caught speeding on a French motorway, police said.

The British driver was at the wheel of a Mercedes when he was clocked at 196 km/h near the northern town of Laon on Sunday.

Police stopped him, detained the car and fined him 600 euros ($A1,011).

"He was very polite and cooperative," said a police spokesman, who added Hamilton had since had the car collected for him.

The McLaren driver, 22, finished runner-up in his rookie season to Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen in the 2007 world championship.
  2. was it Rossi who got nabbed several years back punting down the back streets on the Island?

    Cheers
  3. On a similar theme:
Just goes to show who's the better driver, anyone can drive a Merc fast on a motorway (except maybe Henri Paul ).
  4. If it was a cab in Germany then it was probably a Merc as well...
  5. .. continuing the great tradition of race drivers and their normal-road misdemeanours  .
  6. It would have been better if Schumacher got to the airport and then sprayed everyone with champagne.
  7. It's nothing new. Read any motor racing memoir from the 1950s (before F1 became the big money circus that it is now) and you'll find some quite hair raising reminiscences of occasions where three or four of the top drivers of the day would club together to rent some poor, unsuspecting Renault or Fiat to get from one race to another. Irresponsible but hilarious.

Most of them didn't die in road crashes either so they must have been good. We'll ignore Mike Hawthorn's death when his Jaguar hit a tree and was cut in half, and avoid mention of Fangio rolling something exotic on the road, seriously injuring himself and his wife.
  8. Yes, but I doubt it would have been a CLK ;).
  9. Ha ha ... he was on Top Gear recently (UK ... I download it off BT) and he drives an (from memory) E Class Diesel Estate ... I remember 'cause Clarkson was giving him sh!t for driving a Diesel.
  10. Nope, it was Opel minivan.

  11. Obviously he's upgraded since then:
