Leaking Fork Seal

Discussion in 'Technical and Troubleshooting Torque' started by vette1, Feb 15, 2006.

  1. I have a CBR900RR that has been sitting for some 8 weeks (waiting for my unrestricted licence) and I now notice a leaking fork seal.

Can this be the result of sitting or is it just due to wear & tear? :?:
  2. You aren't a member of the NZ bike inspection crew by any chance?
  3. ?? Am I a bit slow?? (Not NZ or Tasmania!)
  4. Try squeezing a very thin feeler guage down (or up if it's an upside downy) between the seal and the fork leg and run it all the way around, this will often clear up whatever is causing it to leak and if it doesn't work all that you will have lost is some time.
A bike shop will always tell you that you need new fork seals but I have found that 9 times out of 10 this remedy has always worked on my dirtbikes.
  5. Thanks Scooter!!

This is very sound and common sence advice.
