Discussion in 'Racing, Motorsports, and Track Days' at netrider.net.au started by pvda, Jan 4, 2007.

  1. It's back, for those who enjoy older motorsport on TV.

    Below is a cut & paste from an e-mail I received from ABC2;

    Motor Magic
    Guest: Tim Schenken
1969 Warwick Farm Sedans & Series Production Cars 29 January
    1956 Formula 1 Grand Prix 30 January
    1958 Melbourne Grand Prix - 30 January
1959 Bathurst NSW Road Racing Championships 30 January
1963 Warwick Farm Grand Prix International: AGP 31 January
1968 Surfers Paradise Tasman Series RD2: Open Wheelers 1 February

I'm hopeing that Road Racing in the late 50's was of the two wheeled variety and not the 4 wheeled variety.

They still haven't found anything that's older than Hornet600 yet :p

  2. grrrrr :)

Well let me tell you about the time I met Jimmy Clark, Graham Hill, Piers Courage (and his delectable wife Lady Sarah Curzon), Chris Amon and Jack Brabham at the 1968 Tasman Series race at Warwick Farm. And I've got the pictures to prove it .

  3. Well I got to say hello to Juan Manuel Fangio, Sir Jack Brabham & Stirling Moss at Sandown in 1980(??) when I walked through the wrong door under the grandstand and ended up in the mounting yard area in the middle of all the celebs.

Got to drive Sir Jack out in my own car (a clapped out LC Torana) to help him tow son David's Formula Ford in when he broke down during a Friday Practice at Winton many years ago.

Stefan Johanson took a swing at me at the 1986 Adelaide F1 GP after crashing his F1 car.

I also watched and helped push start Fangio when he spun the Merc at one of the Adelaide GP's.

Played taxi for Peter Brock at PI about 4 years ago.

    Need I go on :p

  4. Brocky told me to "Shush!" once at the Clipsal 500 when I was talking whilst the national anthem was playing....

  5. For those interested they are currently repeating a few of the previous episodes at the moment.

18th 1979 Repco Reliability Trial (Gee one I actually attended).
    19th 1968 Tasman International
20th 1969 Australian Grand Prix at Lakeside Qld
21st 1971/72 Touring Car Championship Warwick Farm NSW

Edit: to fix confusing dates in post, now all correct

  6. Ah yes, watched little Chris dish it up to all and sundry at Lakeside last night, gee that Dino open-wheeler was a pretty car.

And the race was 66 laps, the lap time was 53 seconds per lap, like Dick Jonhson said, like running a marathon in your back yard....
