KLX 250 Big Bore kit

Discussion in 'Bling and Appearance' started by smidsy, Aug 4, 2009.

  1. Hei Guys,
I've seen an ad for a KLX 250 that's had a big bore kit to take it out to 300cc. Now this would appeal to me as I weigh about 140kg but I'm restricted to a 250cc here in WA.

How would they do this though - have they bored the barrel to an inch of it's life leaving nothing left or is this kit a new barrel.

Also, is this going to over stress the rest of the driveline?
  2. the KLX was originally designed as a 300, and then just sleeved down to be a 250 for our learner market. So being a 300 again is no hassle on the gearbox.

FWIW I've been running a 331 capacity for a couple of years on the dirt, there's a guy in the States called Bill Blue who machines a 250 barrel and puts a larger sleeve in there. You can go upto 350 if you like.
  3. +1 from what i understand the 250 is pretty underborred. 300 should be pretty safe and there should be allot of info out on them.
