I would think that we'd start the downslope off peak sometime in the next couple of years. If we have a depletion rate of 5% per annum, we'll have to make do with half the oil we do now in 14 short years.

A Crude Awakening was made 4 or 5 years ago. No discernible progress has been in mitigating the effects of peak oil since then. Prepare for everything to become scarce and expensive.
  2. Anybody else remember the oil crisis of the 70s?
  3. Yes, that is what happens when we have oil shortages. The '70s shortages were caused by political events. Peak oil is a geologic event. No amount of effort, money or technology will stop peak oil. It will occur, it's only a matter of when.

  5. Yeah yeah, the world is always coming to an end....
I believe it will end again in Dec 2012....
We'll all wake up the next day and say how terrible it was that the world ended yesterday!

You'll know when it really will happen when alternative powered vehicles start coming into the market and supported by the oil companies.
Until then, all alternative will be rendered usless, non practical, and not as good.
Well while the oil companies have money to be made with oil that is!
