  1. The Australian Newspapers Digitisation Program is being carried out by the National Library. They are progessively digitising Newspapers from 1803 to 1954.

This means that they are scanning them and doing an OCR so you can do text searches. I tried a search on my mother's maiden name and up popped a photo of her from her WRAN days during WWII and also my great grandmothers death notice.

    It's a wonderful timewaster
  2. This will be excellent fun, when it is finished.
  3. The priority of their work is interesting, the two most populous states are well down the list

    # ACT (1)
    # New South Wales (2)
    # Northern Territory (2)
    # Queensland (4)
    # South Australia (1)
    # Tasmania (9)
    # Victoria (1)
    # Western Australia (6)
  4. In Vic, they are only doing "The Argus" so far. I don't remember that paper. It stopped when I was a small child.
  5. Great find !
pity it stops at 1954. Guess we'll have to wait
