  1. I've just started as a contributing writer to this relatively new online magazine. Have a look and sign up if you like it. Tell people about it too, so the thing can grow.

Each month a word is selected and various writers from around the world write pieces based on the word, be it prose, essay, poetry, what have you.

    Check it out.

  2. As a creative fiction writer, do you find a single word inspires a story for you to write? or constrains the story you want to write?

    Just out of curiosity :)
  3. What a great question Ktulu, target fixation for writers
  4. If you already had something in mind then a single word might be constraining. Otherwise, inspiration can come from the slightest thing. I really like this Op-Ed concept and it's really interesting to see what the different writers come up with from a single word.
  5. Would have to agree with TS.

If you don't have a specific idea in mind however, as he said, the smallest things can set you off on an idea. Whether it be a sign, a comment from someone, a look you see a total stranger give to someone, a picture, or yes, a word.

While already having an idea can cause you to feel a little constricted, it's a good exercise to get the brain flowing.

It's like how they say when you've got writers block to just write random words until something comes to you. 9 times out of 10 it does actually work.

Thanks for the link, will look into in properly over the next couple of days :)
