Honda XL250 1972 electrics.....

Discussion in 'Technical and Troubleshooting Torque' started by bilda0105, Jan 16, 2013.

  1. Hi,

New to the forum and would like to ask the question re problems Im having with my XL.
With motor not running hand and foot brake lights work...when I turn on headlights the hand and foot brake lights don't work.
With motor running it's the same scenario.

With motor not running should the headlight work (fully charged battery)?

    Thanking you in advance .

  2. Not sure whether lights should work with engine off, on some older trailies they didn't. assuming it should work with engine off, maybe the battery is not good, and with the load from the headlight there's not enough power so the brake light fails and the headligfht doesn't come on. I'd check battery voltage with engine off and lights off, again with engine running, lights off, finally engine running lights on. Report results back here. (Run engine at 3000 rpm+)
