high note tone / squeeking brakes

Discussion in 'Bling and Appearance' started by DUK35, Dec 29, 2006.

  1. Hi Team - I've noticed my friends' bike has a high note tone coming out of his front brakes - loud enough for me to even hear even tho I'm riding behind him in traffic with my helmet on (duh')

they are brand new pads - they are green and they are really really responsive - but why the loud symphony when braking??

  2. brakes take some time to bed in. If they are new this may be taking place. Another option is...

since brakes are no longer made out of aspestos(sp?) they use copper. If the brakes contain a lump of copper then they will squeek until this has been worn away. Has happened on my bike and car.
  3. thanks taint - I think that might be the issue - I'l check it out tonight.

Every night is a cruise night hahaha
  4. The pads can also become glazed, through continual lght use. I couple of good hard stops will wear the glazing off, returning the pads to a normal texture.
