Discussion in 'Bike Reviews, Questions and Suggestions' started by timbo79, May 19, 2009.

  1. Hey all

looking for reliable commuter with some power and not too expensive.

Saw a gsf bandit for sale a 1996 model for $5990 and just wondering what they are like and if they are reliable. i want it too last for ages because i won't be getting anything again for yonks. also what sort of k.m are too high for a bike like this and is there any differance in the bike from the say 2000 models. know about the new one.

  2. also Movin (Ken) had one before his current steed....
  3. I owned a 1997 model Bandit (bought it new in 97).

    Good points -:
    Heaps of torque.
    Air cooled simplicity.
Versatile bike that can do most things ok.
    Good value for money.

    Bad points -:
The seat was annoying (slides you into the tank due to the slope).
The suspension was very ordinary (I ended up getting race tech parts front and rear).
The fuel use is high (even for a 1200).
The stock muffler is very very restrictive (just the muffler needs doing really).

The later 1200's had basically the same motor but the 2001 to 2005 model had a better seat, a more protective fairing and better headlights.

The 2006 (last of the air cooled 1200's) has improved handling and more modern styling.

After that the liquid cooled 1250 arrived and that's a different beast.
