GPS system ratings

Discussion in 'Electronics' started by Garido, Dec 5, 2011.

  1. Hi all,

    I know there have been a few threads about GPS systems, but I was interested in establishing a library (for better words) of GPS systems being used by bike riders.

    Therefore, I want you to write what GPS system you're using and then spell out your likes and dislikes of the gadget in dot point.

    I don't have one currently myself, so can't start it of. Looking to get one for Xmas.

    Thanks for your inputs!
  2. Aldi:

    * bike specific
    * waterproof
    * cheap and very solid
    * pretty sophisticated, lots of functions
    * pretty accurate trip time estimations

    * shows some of the turns backwards
    * cannot be paired with other comms, so cannot be used with your phone
    * the speaker causes a little bit of irritation to my ear. Could be flatter
    * the cradle rattles when the GPS is not in it (ie most of the time)
    * a little hard to scroll the lists with a gloved finger.
  3. Samsung Galaxy SII in powered mount from holdmyphone.com

    - Good screen
    - Choice of Copilot, Google maps and OziExplorer
    - Fast lock on
    - Doubles as phone and music player

    - Gets insanely hot
    - Not waterproof
    - Touch screen is capacitive so hit and miss with gloves on
    - None of the above three packages are as good as TomTom

    Currently have no sound but getting a Cardo Scala G4 for 'perfectly normal day' so that will solve that problem
