Gear kicks down when hard braking

Discussion in 'Technical and Troubleshooting Torque' started by Withnail, Dec 30, 2007.

  1. Gday all,

The other day I was practicing braking and testing the limits of my rear brake by intentionally locking it up, in a straight line from about 40kmh. I was in second gear with the clutch in.

Anyway I found that as soon as the tyre locked up the gear would kick down to first. Like I said I had the clutch fully engaged. It has also done this before when under very hard braking (though not always). I'm sure my gearbox is performing as it should be in all other areas but I'm wondering why it kicks down like this?

Bike is an 07 R6, 7500km. Stock gearing. Was last serviced at 5500km.

  2. SHHHHH! Dude, you obviously scored an automatic. Don't say anything, or everyone will want one.
  3. haha yes I thought that too!!
  4. pay attention to what your left foot is doing under deceleration :!:
