Two fire vehicles hit on way to call Two LaGrange Fire Department SUVs responding to a car fire on the Taconic State Parkway late yesterday afternoon were involved in a car accident. Deputy Chief Shawn Murray was driving a 2000 Ford SUV marked “LaGrange Fire Chief” eastbound on Route 55 with the lights and siren on when a 2000 Hyundai driven by Michael Fraser, 44, of Hyde Park, which was traveling westbound crossed over into the opposite lane, according to the Dutchess County Sheriff’s office. The chief served partially off the road in an attempt to avoid being struck, however Fraser’s car sideswiped the fire vehicle. Fraser’s vehicle continued westbound in the eastbound lane and struck a 2003 Chevrolet SUV marked “LaGrange ALS ‘Fly’” car, operated by LaGrange firefighter Dianne Hackett, which was traveling eastbound responding to the same call. Murray and Hackett were transported to St. Francis Hospital where they were treated and released for reported minor injuries. Route 55 between Vail Road and Apple Valley was closed for four hours while the accident was being investigated. The cause of the crashes is still under investigation by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office.
