Fraud email from bikesales ?

Discussion in 'General Motorcycling Discussion' at netrider.net.au started by xcwizit, Dec 1, 2009.

  1. Hey guys,
As we speak the bike is on bikesales.com.au Although I think one person is emailing me a fraud.
I haven't called him since my mobile is barred.
Here is his email and details he sent to me!

    Name: Gareth James
    Postcode: 3233
    Mobile Phone: 0400039922
    Email: garryjammey21@gmail.com

After emailing me asking "Hello is the item still for sale? Kindly get back to me with the condition and last price you could go for?" and emailing him back. He replied back:

"ok no problem i will be paying you 7000 with my PayPal account because it's
attached to my bank account and its safe and very secure way to make
payment. If my mode of payment is accepted just send me your paypal
email address,(Paypal ID) or send me paypal payment request so i can
pay in right away. Make sure you get back to me so that i can make the
payment. I have a private courier agent that will come for the pick up
after payments has been made, so no shipping included.
And if you dont have a paypal account, you can easily go to
www.paypal.com.au and sign up. its very easy. i will call you later
    I await your reply asap.

Due to the nature of my job i will not be able to come for inspection
am a very busy type as i work 7am-7pm everyday, don't really think i
need to come for a look, because i have gone through your
advertisement and i am satisfied with it so i will call you when am
chanced from work but as of now we can be chatting online or sending
    emails.
And can you please confirm to me again that the item is very good
    with no fault?

i will get the road worthy myself

  5. i suggest you play with him...

write something like "by the way just to let you know the bike im selling is actually a postie this is just an image of a good looking bike i found. Are you still intetested?"
$20 says you get a reply saying yes, these scammers are rarely from Aus and dont speak fluent english.

  8. I hope that was intended as sarcasm.

  9. I've heard of similar scams. if it's the same they'll pay the money and then they'll have some excuse for not going trough with the sale and then you refund the money. Basically they are laundering dirty money.

  10. they use stolen credit cards through paypal, get the bike, then paypal chases the seller to get the stolen money back

  11. I have received two similar ads regarding my car I have listed on carsales. In both cases, Carsales management have emailed me within 24hrs of receiving them saying they believe the email to be fraudulent and not to reply to it. The sender's email address has now been banned.

Pretty quick action by them I thought but those emails stand out like dogs balls to me. After all, who reads your ad and them emails you asking if you'd accept the full listed price without even looking at it, let alone asking a few questions about its history.

  12. i replied back to the guy!
    "Hi Gareth,
Have not heard frmo you all night? Anyway regarding the bike. Bikesales will be contacting you through your IP Address! Please let me know where you live so I can deliver the bike straight to your house!

    Cheers, Chris

HAHA this should scare him away!

  13. lol.

Yeh, i had one of these when I was selling my bike.

Better that theres a thread every few months and some poor forum-trolls have to read them twice than a poor fellow motorcyclist loses his bike and his money imho.
