Flat Battery

Discussion in 'Technical and Troubleshooting Torque' started by Reece, Aug 6, 2008.

  1. Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone knew if I could use a standard automotive battery charger to quickly charge my battery for my bike. Will it damage the battery? I just want to do a quick charge to get it going.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

  2. As long as its one of the small ones, around 2 amps, you should be right.
  3. Great thanks for the tip
  4. As long as the bike doesn't have a 6 volt battery.
But that's unlikely unless its as old as you and me!!
  5. A normal charge will be 1/10 from the capacity of battery

ex: Battery 12A12V -> good charge is 1.2Ah or 1Ah. Not over this value

Smart chargers (but really good one, not Chinese one) use PWM as charging (pulse wide modulation). They charge fast at beginning and then slowly drop the current.
