Far North Coast - escaping winter chills

Discussion in 'Roads, Touring, Journeys, and Travel' at netrider.net.au started by Unconnected, Jul 7, 2013.

  1. So me and toadcat took off last tuesday on a long planned ride to far north nsw where the sun shines and the roads are twisty.

Our main route was as follows, Sydney-> Wollumbi->Broke->Maitland->Dungog->Gloucester->Walcha->Wauchope->Urunga-> Night stop->Dorrigo->Grafton Via Armidale Rd->Casino->Nimbin->The Channon-> Ballina Night stop-> Sydney via F3

Was a great trip, we decided to just slab it home after ballina as both me and toadcat didnt want to spend another 50 bucks or so each on another night of accommodation, 750km of pacific highway was pretty boring, but managable.

Worst parts of the trip: Hitting gravel on armidale road, causing my bike to lose the front and rear and kick itself into a huge near highside fishtail fcukfest. That was pretty intense, but glad both me and toadcat didnt go down, he hit the gravel too with much the same result.

Also riding over a mountain up in the clouds over a narrow goat track with a huge drop on one side in the rain, with huge pot holes that could swallow a car let alone a bike.

    Here are the photos;
    Thunderbolts way lookout
A shit place to stay in Urunga, dont stay here
    Kalang River
Decided to off road down to the bank
    Waterfall way, a great road
    Experiencing riding in HD
Up a mountain on tuntable falls road

Anyway, thats the trip, i took a lot of video, but its always a huge biatch to upload it, so maybe one day, probably not.

  2. Sounds like a ripper of a trip Unc - not so sure i'd fancy the 750 k's of the pac highway in hit though.
Is that helmet you've got a Rossi 'face' design mickey take?? ;)
  3. Sounds like it was a great trip. I'd love to see more of that neck of the world.

Respect on going through Waterfall way, one of last times I was near there for work I trusted a GPS to get me from Armidale to Coffs Harbour and ended up tackling Waterfall Way in pitch darkness with a *very* utilitarian 4WD (read: handled like a boat on narrow tyres) and NFI what was around the next corner.

If you have more pics or stills, I'd love to see them.
