Expensive? Nawww, DIRTcheap !

  1. The bike slammed sideways into the steep embankment. The solid Hepco Becker crashbars bent and creased ...the right pannier copped a huge whack but held, sort of.
    In between those 2 the lower leg was in a protected pocket but the footpeg flipped up as it hit the hard dirt. Jammed the lower leg upwards at a huge rate of knots, the handlebar had come to full right lock and stopped the leg instantly, a huge bruise the result. The knee also bent the bar-weight bolt, jamming the barweight into the twistgrip, engine howling at high revs.
    The front-end dropped into the drainage ditch at the bottom of the bank, the whole rear of the Strom lifting waist-high and flipping to the left.
    Nose, left crashbar hit hard and the left pannier disintegrated. The topbox copped another whack, popping its hinges.
    Engine cut out as told by the sensor.
    The cloud of dust, leaves and assorted other debris settles, silence for a few precious seconds....
    ....MAN UP !!

    The Daytona Roadstars come with accolades galore, they've been produced for yonks and are the single most best selling boot in Europe.
    Goretex, too....but it's the hidden features that appeal most: Decent protection everywhere, and a supposedly crush-proof rear-wedge encasing a steel-spring that prevents the boot from "folding" or sidewards-crushing.
    And that's how it worked:
    Note the kink on the sole-unit, sole and heel are angled markedly to eachother.
    shows the internal protection- wedge broken in half but still held together by the steel-spring.

    The foot was sore for 2 days and that was it. X-rays revealed no fractures.
    Compared to everything that'd come along with multiple fractures of some/ many of those little bones of a foot....that boot was dirt-cheap.

    If only Daytona would appoint a decent importer in AUS and things wouldn't be so awkward to get a replacement....but....it'll be the same boot again.

  3. Oh no! Guenther right? Glad to hear he is OK, and came out with only just a limp and some soreness.

  5. Bugger, the wearer of the boot definately came out pretty well, doesn't sounds so promising for the bike though.
  6. If it wouldn't have been for THAT boot, the foot would've been a royal mess. A THANK-YOU-Email and pics are underway to Daytona.
    The bike's stuffed...there's hardly any part of it that's not buckeled/broken/gouged/scraped etc etc...except frame and engine.
    All his protective gear (apart from the gloves) also did it's job well....all of it marked for the bin...but it did the job well. The only "BUT" were the Draggins...leathers with knee-protectors would've absorbed most/ all of the hit of knee-against-handlebar, but with a 38C forecast....

  8. So we should update the old dictum:" If you've got $10 feet, get $10 boots"

    Thanks for the disquieting post, Glitch, and the subconscious reminder that my boots cost me $149.00 :LOL:
  9. $$ aside...any other boot without THAT sole/heel-strenghtening would've just folded at around the crack-line...leaving forces to continue doing the same to the foot above it.
  10. Hmmm. Better boots are definitely on my shopping list this year, and also a back protector I think.

    My current boots are in the same price range as Paul's. They're better than shoes or non-bike boots, but not by much.
