enlighten me on a few terms

  1. Hi all, I am on a learning curve with regarded to tuning the carbies on my fzr400. I have come across two terms which I would appreciate a definition for.

as in "The engine surges or hunts when cruising at part-throttle"

as in "The engine eight-strokes as it loads up."

    Thanks in advance.
  2. Hunting means that the engine is "hunting" for a steady idle. i.e it will rev higher than what it's supposed to and then it will rev lower. This up and down is referred to as "hunting"

Eight strokes, sounds like me after some mind altering drugs :p
    sorry no idea :)
  3. 'hunting' is a surge, where the revs rise, then fall again, without you touching the throttle.
  4. 8 stroking would be when it misses, ie instead of firing on the fourth stroke, misfires, fires next time round.
  5. Thanks

MV, hormet and Vic for the reply
  6. That would sound fantastic on a big single!
