eBay Steering dampers

Discussion in 'Modifications and Projects' at netrider.net.au started by me3@neuralfibre.com, Feb 4, 2010.

  1. Is there anything bad about the eBay steering dampers?

6 settings, from Hong Kong. Pretty colours. Under $100 delivered - although brackets could be a hassle. (Hmm - hose clamp....)

I know it won't be an Ohlins, but I figure it's gotta be better than a friction damper :)

For a tourer - has anyone tried one?

    Thanx

  2. Although I have no experience with these dampers

I do not trust anything mechanical made in China -- especially for a bike if its anything other than bling

  4. Why do you need a steering damper on a tourer?

  5. VStrom's are supposed to like them.

  6. Fair enough, although I'd hesitate to call a V-Strom a tourer. More like all-purpose.

  7. Umm they will typically last 6 to 18 months.

The seals will go first ie leak oil out.

You then strip the unit and replace the o rings and then refill with 10 weight fork, oil and if your lucky it will go all go back together umm 50/50 chance do not pinch the GLD ring

It may then develop a flat spot in the middle of the stroke ie move 10 to 15 mm before resistance is felt.

You may then have to strip it again and try to get all the air out again

In all its fiddley to do its up to you

    Good luck
