Design rules or certification?

Discussion in 'Modifications and Projects' at netrider.net.au started by XCgeek, Sep 10, 2012.

  1. Are there any design rules, regligatory bodies or certification needed for a home made cycle rack to carry stuff on the back of a motorcycle?

  2. The only guidelines on this seem to be these:

None of which is relevant to motorcycles, except for the last point
So about the only option you have seems to be to mount the bicycle pointing straight up.
  3. So I can overhang the back of the bike by 861mm from the rear axel
  4. That would seem to be the case, provided that 862mm is not more than 60% of the wheelbase.

Would explain why most people seem to go with this sort of arrangement
Though I wouldn't want to try and argue legalities with a cop on the side of the road.
  5. I think provided it doesn't have any sharp protruding edges, doesn't obscure lights or rego etc.. and your not trying to carry a piano you'd have no issues.
