Desert Island Disks

Discussion in 'The Pub' at netrider.net.au started by Mr Flibble, Jul 10, 2011.

  1. You can only bring five albums (double counts as two) with you. No "best of" compilations. Think long and hard, you will be stuck with them for the rest of you life...

    Here's mine:

    Return To Forever: Romantic Warrior

    Steely Dan - Katy Lied

    Miles Davis: Kind of Blue

Felix Mendelssohn: Hebrides Overture; Violin Concerto in E minor; Symphony No. 3 in A minor 'Scottish'

    Villa-Lobos: Guitar Concerto; Preludes; Etudes
    Julian Bream

  2. Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
Orff - Carmina Burana (probably the James Levine/Chicago Symphony Deutsche Grammophon recording)
    Jean Michel Jarre - Oxygene
Rodrigo - Concerto d'Aranjuez (with John Williams on guitar)
  3. how you going to play them?

the island has electricity? maybe it has internet too then, so i bring anything i like :)
  4. Well I can cheat a litte as
    Jazzfan is bringing
Miles Davis and Steely Dan, and
    Atropos is bringing
    Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin,

I can grab my next favourite 5

    Tom Waits ........................ Mule Variations
Robert Plant & Allison Kraus .. Raising Sand
    Israel Kamakawiwi"ole ......... Facing Future
    Blues Traveller ................... The Rocks
and one oldie in case the surfs up

    Taman Shud ..................... Evolution

    Attached Files:

  5. The professor will make a CD player out of bamboo and clam shells
  6. wind power,
    solar power
but most likely some sort of dynamo could provide power quite logically, hell even simpler is battery's but this is finite, unless it has citrus fruit where you can make a simple battery from the acid.............. i think im reading too far into this, but there are other ways to get electricity then a plug in the wall.

alternatively and the simplest is use a gramophone and have them as records for some reason

edit: hahaha just realised its a desert, not at deserted island:p
    proof reading comes in handy
  7. So what are your 5 spenaroo?

Physical Graffiti is a double album, and Tom Waits Used Songs is a compilation. But I guess it's in a motorcyclist's nature to say fark the rules :p, so that's OK
  8. Nope! rules is rules, I could swap "Used Songs" for "Mule Variations" or "Heart Attack and Vine", yep "Mule Variations" wins.
  9. ooh, hard to say
mumford and sons - sigh no more
queen - a night at the opera
    pendulem - hold your coulor
    eagles - hell freazes over
the police - Live! disc 1 (cheating yes, but its all legal as its not a compilations but the recording of a concert :D, and only one disc of the double cd:p)

(what can i say almost all modern music sucks, sadly most of these songs are older then i am:()
  10. Dammit! I was hoping to sneak that one under the radar.

Ok, I'll switch it for Led Zeppelin II.

And for those concerned about how we can play these discs - I own the vinyl versions of 4 of my 5 selections, so as long as we can jury rig some sort of turntable we'll be right. :music:

Best of Chopin - must include this:

    Black Sabbath - Vol 4

    Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells

(one I would so regretfully have to leave behind... in a dustbin.. OMG!!.. what a kewel dude, he even beats James Last!!!! )

...I actually really like his playing style (Maksim) when he plays classical pieces without the granny schmaltz.....
