Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) for bikes

Discussion in 'Politics, Laws, Government & Insurance' started by farawayman, Dec 6, 2005.

  1. While googleing for Hornet600 looking for some driving lights I noticed this http://members.optusnet.com.au/carsafety/esv19_paine_mc_drl.pdf

And thought some would be interested.

  2. This came out some time back. The research methodology was so bad that VicRoads and the TAC lost absolutely no time distancing themselves from the whole proposal. In fact they were extremely embarassed.

  3. I've seen these turn-signal DRLs in operation overseas. They do seem to make the bike look a little more cospicuous, but I suspect its like the effect of green LEDs mounted in the headlights of riceboy cars. Only noticable because they are (thankfully) unusual.

I suspect (and have no supporting evidence) that if turn-signal DRLs became commonplace, they would cease to be noticable.

I can't see any reason why they should be banned, though.
