I dunno, Dakar in Australia could be a bit dull.
No mountains of paperwork, visas, passports and the like for the 700 nations you race through.
No civil unrest.
No minefields from long-past wars.
No demilitarised zones from ongoing wars.

Yes, they'll be there, demanding an end to polluting, anti-social motorsport (getting there in their 4WDs, prolly). All the more reason to push it through.
Actually, I think there's a good chance of this kind of event rotating around the world, although the brand new Rallye Transorientale (St Petersburg to Beijing) may already have stolen a lot of the thunder. A lot of comeptitors said it was actually harder than the Dakar.
