Couldnt find the old Post... Is 100,000kms too much?

Discussion in 'Bike Reviews, Questions and Suggestions' started by Paulie, Jun 22, 2006.

  1. Hey couldnt find original post that someone asked a while back. Is 100,000kms too high for a ZXR750 if it has log books and appears very straight and clean>? (1991 model) Rode it tonight, doesnt blow smoke and seems pretty tight

    thanks and sorry
  2. With any older or high mileage engine, I insist on doing a compression check. It wil tell you many things. You can also eyeball the spark plugs while they are out, any excess oil on the plug threads usually means valve stem seals are gone or going, and dark oily deposits inside the plug mean dying rings/bores. Don't get hung up on actual compression numbers, so long as they are very even across all cylinders.
Engines can and do go for a very long time if looked after, but you must check for yourself or roll the dice!

    Regards, Andrew.
