Cost to get bike On the Road in NSW

Discussion in 'Politics, Laws, Government & Insurance' at netrider.net.au started by Paulie, Sep 19, 2006.

  1. Hi all, I tried using the search function and ended up with 12000 posts so thought I better just ask... rather simple question..

I have seen an unregistered bike for sale which seems to be in good order, but just a little concerned as to the costs to get it 'on the road'. I'm 24 and just trying to find out how much to get the bike registered and i guess greenslip?

I thought maybe $700 all up? does that sound about right? (I have NO idea where to look)

specs. Its a 1991 ZXR750 been outta rego for 2 years i think

Thanks all! any help greatly appreciated

  2. How long is a piece of string? The RTA side of things will involve a blue slip at around $60 or so (which is supposed to be a thorough inspection), and initial registration and plate issue, which wil be maximum $200 or so. And you will need a greenslip, dunno how much that will be for your bike/licence combo. Those figures above are off the top of my head, I can't rember exactly what I paid.
I would also budget at least $500 for bike stuff, and have it thoroughly checked over if you aren't too knowledgeable.
Usually, unless you can do all the work, bargain anything is not a bargain!

    Regards, Andrew.

  4. About $150 for fees from RTA - see here which includes Registration, Rego fee and number plate.

If you can get a mechanic to check the bike over who also does Blue Slips, you'd get it all done for a reasonable price.

CTP at cost - depends on a few variables.

  5. WOW!!!! greenslips are pretty damn expensive!!!

    AAMI $566.36 $623.00 132 244 On-line quote
    Allianz $565.45 $622.00 1300 137 664
    CIC-Allianz $562.73 $619.00 1300 360 340
    GIO $564.45 $620.89 131 010 On-line quote
    NRMA $329.00 $361.90 132 132 On-line quote
    QBE $564.55 $621.00 1300 791 874
    Zurich $563.18 $619.50 1800 811 099

Add that with 200bucks for rta and a 2nd hand unregistered bike is by no means a bargain! hmmm.....

  6. I think add $180 for reg and only about $25 for a blue slip.

Add 3rd part property and damage insurance at least. ($250-400)

Plus any repairs that are needed to pass the blue slip and put a few hundred to one side, to cover the problem you know are going to pop up in the first 6 months after a 2 year layoff.

Not much change out of $1500 really.

  7. The only cost above normal rego renewal is the blueslip and plate issue fee (possibly plate issue is free with standard plate?)

Remember if its 2 years out of rego the tyres will be like old dried up cheese, so budget another $500 towards that.

Greenslip depends on the vehicle (older ones are more expensive), your age and where you live. Anywhere from $200 to $700

  8. The greenslip for my '77 Z650 was $450 with NRMA.
Blueslip was about $40? Rego was <$100. Can't remember how much the new plate was... insignificant compared to the greenslip

Overall I was pretty happy as I only paid $1K for the bike and there was *too* much that needed to be done to be roadworthy.
