Complience Plates, Buying Bike or cars with suspect plates.

Discussion in 'Politics, Laws, Government & Insurance' at netrider.net.au started by Big Chris, Oct 11, 2005.

  1. Hi all,
I am looking for definate information on the topic of
"Buying Vehicles with plates off another vehicle"
    Example,

Selling a car like an "GTR" Torana with complience plates off another car,
ie, a non "GTR" body with "GTR" plates, and engine number, etc.

Selling a Yamaha RZ250 with an RZ350 engine and compliance plate,

That is all I can think of at the moment, from my own experience that I have seen.

I have look on the intra web thinggie and have not been able to find hard information on this topic,
I am sure that this is an illegal action,
As well as Selling plates off cars and bikes,

Can anyone help with links and or post the information on this forum.

I have seen quite a few dodgy cars for sale on ebay,
and I am pretty sure that it is illegal to transfer or sell compliance plates.
But I am looking for evidence to back up this belief.

    Cheers
    Chris.

Edit, got the torana reference wrong.
Edit 2, sorry can't seem to spell today.
Edit 3, Should be buying suspect vehicles not selling.

  4. It's also the standard operating procedure in Greenacre, Chullora, etc, in THOSE panel shops. The plate is unique to the car/bike and any attempt to tamper with the plate or swap it among other vehicles is always viewed as a crime in itself, designed to mask another crime, ie vehicle re-birthing.

  5. Cheers guys,
I have had several people trying to tell me it is not illegal,
and I was sure that it is, just needed something to back up the arguement,
the example of the GTR Torana,
IMHO, will not be able to be registered with the dodgy plates,
and as Hornet said, could even be a rebirth.
    Thanks
    Chris.
