clutchy transmission prob?

Discussion in 'Bling and Appearance' started by spongesam, Jan 3, 2007.

  1. When taking off in first,
runs fine until clutch is fully engaged, and then makes a clunky noise,
    then again in 2nd,

    3rd onwards is fine.

    not sure what it is.
    changed oil and tensioned chain.

    Chain is tensioned fine.
    Oil just been changed.

    any idea guys?

(my bike has been playing up a bit lately as you may have noticed)

  2. Did the noise start with the oil change? In a hard take-off, does the gear slip out (1st and/or 2nd)? I've ridden many bikes where the engagement of 2nd is a bit iffy, and it can slip out if not given a good bootful, in some cases you have to throttle off to get the gear to engage properly (ie, apply a 'backward' force through the drivetrain). This is wear of the engagement mechanism and is bad.
  3. it was evident before the oil change

every now and then it might slip from 3/4th but that's just when i haven't shifted fully

i'll be trying to investigate this a bit further
