Chain Maintenance - rust spots?

Discussion in 'Bling and Appearance' started by al77, Jul 7, 2007.

  1. For those more mechanically adept than myself

How do i stop rust spots forming on the side of my chain??

I lube my chain every 500ish km with Motul stuff, but only spray it on the "inside" of the chain and not on the sides. I find that if i put any on the sides it ends up being flung all over the place.

But being winter, I'm getting rust spots form on the sides? Any help would be appreciated?

  2. I think your meant to put it on the side between where the chain links together?
  3. You clean it as well as just lube right?

I had some rust on mine, a real good scrub with a steel brush and kero fixed it up :)
  4. kero clean, with tooth brush. Must get myself a steel brush then. Cheers
  5. With a steel brush, it cant be used to clean around the seals It might damage them. Only on the outer side of the links.
