Chain Lube and Grease all over garage floor

Discussion in 'Bling and Appearance' started by haksu, Mar 16, 2009.

  1. Hi all,
    stupid rookie mistake.
Just cleaned and lubed my chain for the first time and got some lovely big black smears all over the floor.
*note for next time, put cardboard box down*

Now as I live in an apartment, the concierge is going to have a growl at me, because they are very very good at making sure the grounds are spotless (which is a good thing).

My question is, what's the best product I can use to easily clean up the gunk? I think its a mix of old chain lube, and new chain lube, plus other grit and grime that melted off my chain.
I was considering using more chain cleaner (pricey for the whole job) or kerosene. The only downside I can see is that I will need to absorb it all up, rather than smear it clear.

    Thanks in advance!

  2. Any water soluble degreaser will do the trick. I use penzoil.
  3. I read the topic of this thread and immeadiately thought 'yep I have had nights out like that before'.
    Honest mistake really.
  4. $2 cans of degreaser from bunnings. Spray on, walk off, come back 5 mins later and hose away.
  5. rub honey into it and the ants will take care of it for you.
