Just got a note today rgarding a benefit that the CFA (Country Fire Authority) is holding in Bairnsdale at the Bairnsdale Racecourse for fire victims. The organisers have sent a request out to various bike groups such as MRA and Ulysses inviting them down for the day. They hope to have the Roullettes possibly an F18 flyby, V8 Supercar exhibit and other activities, as well as a major drawcard for the event. For those not familiar with the place it's about 280 km east of MEL on the Princes Highway in East Gippsland (gateway to Gippsland Lakes). For a more bike friendly way of getting there, I would recommend the following route: Yarra Junction to Noojee, then up to Neerim Sth, then onto Old Sale Road to head into Moe. Or you can go up the Icy Creek Road to Hill End and down to the Baw Baw/Moe Road. Then from Moe, out to Yallourn North, Tyers, Glengarry, Cowwarr, Heyfield, Maffra and onto the Princes Highway at Stratford. From there you can head straight down the highway for 50 boring kays, or you can turn onto the Bengwarden Road for around 60 kays of pleasant sweepers and less traffic.
