Buzzing/rubbing noise in 5th

Discussion in 'Technical and Troubleshooting Torque' started by mewnz, May 7, 2009.

  1. Hi everyone.

In 5th gear I am hearing a high pitched buzzing/vibrating/rubbing sound.

I got the bike back from the mechanics with new chain/sprockets and thought perhaps it wasn't lubed up enough, lubed it myself and it's still there. Is there a 'bedding in time' for new chain/sprockets?

Apart from that on the mechanics invoice thing, it says to note that the rear cam chain is starting to wear (noisy). Is that the most likely culprit?

This noise DEFINATELY was NOT there before the service. It is annoying the absolute crap out of me, most of my time is spent on the motorway in 5th and I've never had an issue with this sound.

If it is the rear cam chain, is it something that I can DIY?
