buying privately

Discussion in 'General Motorcycling Discussion' started by n1ck, Dec 17, 2005.

  1. i'm intending to buy a second hand bike privately, so just wondering what the procedures are when buying privately. i mean, what do i need from the seller, what do i have to give the seller (other than the cash obviously), is there any legal documents i need, etc etc etc..
    thanx guys..

  2. First, a REVS check to ensure the vehicle is not under lease or secured loan. Second, a written receipt, with time, date, both parties' names, registration number if any, chasis and engine number, signed by seller. Ask to see ID too. Third, if registered, the rego papers, signed by the seller on the back.
Then you get to go to the RTA and transfer the rego, or go and get a blue slip if unregistered, get a green slip and go to the RTA and apply for rego.

    Regards, ANdrew.
  3. thanx lots andrew. appreciated the info. merry christmas!
