Brisbane Honda rider

  1. Hi,

Should have done this months ago when I first started coming by this site.

I'm a mature-age rider who's been on bikes since I was 15, back in NZ. Just bought bike number 24, a very well kept Honda CB1300 and am loving it. Previously owned a yellow and black BMW R1150R, hence the avatar and sig.

  2. Woohoo, another Qld'er! Welcome to NR, mate.

What area of Brissy are you in and just how mature is "mature"??

    Bike number 24??!!! Faaaaaaarrrrrk!
  3. Hi Cookeetree and lbfalcon,

    Thanks for the welcome.

I'm in the eastern suburbs, out towards the Wynnum-Manly area. And mature is mid-50s. Sigh. If you stay at it long enough then the bike list grows long, though there are a few vintage/classic bikes and off-roaders in the list.

I do Saturdays at Springwood Suzuki. Maybe see you there sometime.

  4. Welcome to the madness (sometimes) of Netrider, great to have another *cough* mature-age rider on the team :).

I'd love to hear about some of those 24 bikes. Have you done any racing of any sort? There was a time back in the 70s when it seemed that the entire population of NZ were in road-racing or something like it.....
  5. Mid-50's is still a young-un. A Canadian fella on another board I chat on turned 77 a couple of months ago. Started riding in 1946. He owns three sportbikes, no cars. He's owned bike shops, competed in observed trials riding, taught wrestling at schools, the list just goes on and on. He now spends his days going for 6 - 8 hour rides, going to the gym (to stay fit for those 6 - 8 hour rides!), or shooting handguns at his local range. The stories he tells of his life are just amazing and would make a great book!

Been into Springwood Suzuki a few times, looking for gear not bikes (GO Kawi!). Will pop in next time we're up there. Who should we ask for??

BTW, we've got a new member who's just moved to Redland Bay from down south. I'm gonna escort him to Coffee Night at Milton one Friday night, when he's ready. He doesn't know Brissy at all yet. Interested in joining in? There's a sticky thread on Coffee Night in the Qld Ride and Events section.
  6. Cookeetree, if you come by Springwood look for the oldest guy in the sales team! I'm Peter, one of two in the company on Saturdays.

I'll think about the coffee night.

hornet600, my list includes some wierd and wonderfuls, including a Honda CB500/4, Rickman Triumph Metisse, Montesa Cota 247, Triumph Tigress 250 scooter, Indian 741B military Junior Scout, AJS 650, Ducati 900GTS, Yamaha RD350LC, Matchless 350 ISDT replica special, Yamaha XJ750E, BSA A10 650, Honda C50 Cub, 1931 AJS 500, BMW R1150R and a bunch more.

I never raced in NZ, which upsets your theory, but did okay in trials for a couple of years in the mid-70s.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.
  7. Welcome aboard..
  8. Welcome :)

I have visited Springwood Suzuki a couple of times, mainly to gaze lovingly at the used GSX750F your boss wants too much for

I also check out the gear there too, there's an RJay's jacket I want, but would look a little too "try hard" riding the GPX.

    Maybe next year...for both....

Anyway, good to see another local. Take care and see you around :)
