Brake pad issues

Discussion in 'Technical and Troubleshooting Torque' started by Cronus, Aug 28, 2008.

  1. On my cbr 250R.

I noticed a little while ago that ocasionally my brake would make a sort of clunk sound when i used it for the first time, coming out of the drive way and thats it, now it does it quite often and i took a look and the outside pad is moving slightly, is there a way i can fix it and well, how bad is it. it looks about 5mm at the max.

  2. Please don't take any chances with your brakes.
If you're in ANY WAY unsure, you need to seek out a qualified mechanic.
  3. If it is the pad moving then replacing the pad should fix it (it's unlikely to be the caliper) but I doubt your diagnosis. It's more likely to be flogged disc mounts, wheel bearings or steering head bearings.
  4. Many calipers use a shim to locate the pad.
Clunks can be due to missing shims assuming all else is fine.

+1 Take it to a mechanic if you're unsure.
