Bonneville as first bike?

Discussion in 'New Riders and Riding Tips' started by NJS, Mar 31, 2008.

  1. Have not ridden for years. Am about to get licence through Q-ride. Would like to get a bike that is a bit of a long term propersition, ie can take it gentle to start but will have enough for some fun down the track. Am not the type to get stupid on the road. Love the bonneville.
Am I an idiot for considering it?

  2. The Bonneville isn't really much faster than a lot of the LAMS bikes available in other states and it's got fairly conservative steering geometry.

I don't think you're crazy, but you should be careful of twisting the throttle too hard for the first 12 months or there abouts.

If it worries you then maybe use a throttle stop limiting throttle to say 2/3rds for a while until you get used to the bike.
