Bill of Rights

Discussion in 'The Pub' at netrider.net.au started by Gustlik, Feb 4, 2008.

  1. There seem to be a lot of threads appearing with regards to the government getting into our lives where we dont want them,
    due to the ever present "Terrorist" threat. Phone taps, CCTV, etc.
    A minority seem to agree with these government measures, the rest would rather see the money spent more wisely.

    Australia is one of the only western countries without a Bill of Rights or equivelant.

    Do we need a Bill of Rights?
    Will our civil liberties keep on being curbed by the government one step at a time, without one?

    The American constitution/BoR was thrown out the window even before the "war on terror";
    Do you believe the same would happen if we had a Bill of Tights?

  2. law is up to one of two things:

    1. corruptible people in government; or
    2. corruptible people in the courts.

    Take your pick - what's written on any piece of paper doesn't seem to matter to anyone, anywhere in the world!

  3. Mate, with 20% of the population on anti-depressents, the other 20% diabetic from artifical sweetners and the rest having melted skulls from our neolithic education systems, a bill of rights will do nuff all.
