Bike group buy.

Discussion in 'General Motorcycling Discussion' started by loth, Feb 27, 2007.

  1. Lately I've been pretty obsessed about my upgrade in around 1 year to a bigger bike and been juggling with ideas of finance, loans, work, expenses etc...

    And then it hit me.

If we can get a few people, say 5, to go buy bikes as a group? New ones of course, at a dealer. It would go something along those lines :
"If we are going to buy a bike each at your shop, better have a good discount ready. Oh and we're also visiting all the bike dealers in NSW."

5 customers at once. Bigger than usual discount. Save more $$$. Possible? If so, I'll put up a post for anyone who's gonna buy a bike next year in around March / April. If not, then I'll have to take out a bigger loan. But hey, worth trying, right?

    Your thoughts?
  2. yeah man I'll be up for it - problem is I might wanna be getting a Harley or the SuperDuke if I could offord it my then. and sadly both those brands are kinda specialist dealers.

Or I could go for a V-star Yamaha - you never know. A lot to look into.

    good idea nonetheless
  3. Sounds like a great idea. I'd love ta be apart, but unfortunatley, i think all the bikes i want are a lil too expensive on insurance for me atm
  4. Get the V-star! those are amazing bikes they looks better and sound better then harleys (you need aftermarket pipes on both)

I'll ask around and see if anyone wants to upgrade around that time and i'll post up any interests.

  5. Im definetly in that, March next year is when i will be upgrading from a 250

    EDIT: your in Sydney :(
  6. Of course, 1 year is advance is pretty early. A lot of people might not be thinking of buying a bike next year as of now, but might smile at the idea in say December 2007. On the other hand, I thought that if people are thinking of buying already, this might dissuade them from ordering the bike early and save more money (possibly) in this 'bulk' buy.
  7. Here is an idea  , If you cant arrange a group purchase the dealers will love purchaser referrals, Educate them about the netrider community and let them know the whole community will be told of the fantastic service you've received if they give you a decent discount . Keep the thread going about how many people are ready to purchase now or in the foreseeable future and take it with you and show them when you are ready to do the deal . :) Word of mouth is the best advertisment a dealer can get .

P.S. There even may be ongoing spotters fees for you
  8. I can legally upgrade at the end of January. But if its going to save me 1000 bucks (which it could very well could) I'd wait a bit longer. Mind you I'd want to buy from the brand dealer of the bike I want (ie kawa).
  9. i'll be in it. I was thinking August...after the tax return, but i may wait.

Only one bike though. Triumph Sprint ST
  10. I'm in, but i'll be a month or two after you guys before i can be allowed to upgrade :( .. and there aren't alot of triumph dealers around!
  11. If you buy from team moto you'd be able to get the bikes you want as they have many shops that are for certian brands. You could say bring these bikes here and we will buy them. Meh. Im not saying that i like team moto but sometimes you have to deal with them to get what you want.
  12. Based on what little is in it for bikes shops now for the bikes I'm interested in I'm not sure a group buy would save me any money.
  13. I think you would have more sucess talking with cash and shopping around for the best deal.

Good idea but what a head fcuk
  14. You sound like a smart negotiator.. If i only i lived in NSW, i am always keen for a new bike..
  15. You can jump in with us Paulie! I already have a group of 3 looking to buy brand new in Melb so far....
  16. lol yeah time to trade the zx14 on a real bike haha, theres problems if your looking at a new bike already
  17. to quote fred durst "your mouth's writing cheques your ass cant cash....."

  18. No im pretty sure my ass can cash those checks.
  19. I could be in on this depending when it's all going down. Let me know.
  20. Joelridescbr - I must correct you on that one.
that line ORIGINALLY came from Top Gun:

Stinger: Maverick, you just did an incredibly brave thing. What you should have done was land your plane! you don't own that plane, the tax payers do! Son, your ego is writing checks your body can't cash. You've been busted, you lost your qualifications as section leader three times, put in hack twice by me, with a history of high speed passes over five air control towers, and one admiral's daughter!

for the V-Star vs Harley comment:

really? I never really heard a V-star go yet....... but my impression is that - don't harley's keep their value better than the V-stars?

Loth: Which dealers are yo looking into Loth???

for Jewjew: www.bikebiz.com.au up in Parramatta does Triumpths as well as Yamaha's - that's a +1 already since Loth wants the R6
