Benelli to join MotoGP

Discussion in 'Racing, Motorsports, and Track Days' started by Duffman, May 17, 2006.

  1. from new australian motorcycle news mag out today:

"Benelli is going MotoGP racing in 2008. The italian marque has announced plans for a two-rider assault on the world championship. One of the riders is said to be current Kawa MotoGP test rider Oliver Jacque. Benelli has been absent from the GP since 1973..."

could be interesting. will no doubt boost their profile further.[/i]

  2. What? They must be sick of getting an ass-whooping in WSBK!

Perhaps the capacity change in MotoGP will suit them, but that triple cylinder's gotta go if they want to be competitive.
  3. Absolutely!

heres something else from that article that i hadnt read earlier...

...Benelli is already working on engine development - said to be a 16-valve in-line 4.

..."we already have an 800cc MotoGP engine under development for the new formula coming into existance next year."

"We believe competing in MotoGP is a good way of obtaining recognition of Benelli"

sounds like the new chinese owners are really committed to the Benelli brand.
