'Beautiful' Songs, what are yours?

Discussion in 'The Pub' at netrider.net.au started by MattyB, Nov 2, 2006.

  1. Well, as queer as that title is coming from me,

I saw in the general discussion area a thread about blood pumping ride music, and a couple of people were talking about Vast, and someone mentioned 'flames' was the most 'beautiful' some he's ever heard.

I figured I could list some better ones :p

    Ben Harper - Morning Yearning
(Also - Drugs don't work, Waiting for you, Please Bleed, Alone)

    NIN - Hurt
(Maybe the softer cover by Johnny Cash)

    Damien Rice - Creep (Cover)
(Also - Lonelily, Cold Water, Lonely Soldier - And 'prague' which is a hidden track at the end of Eskimo)

Eric Clapton - Tears in Heaven

James Blunt - No Bravery (Not a huge fan, but some may like it)
    (Also - Tears and Rain?)

John Butler Trio - Peaces and Cream (or Peaces & Cream)
(Also - What You Want, Life ain't what it seems)

    Pete Murray - Please
(Also - So Beautiful, See The Sun)

Powder Finger - My Kind Of Scene

Jack Johnson - Sitting, Waiting, Wishing.

That should get you started :p

  2. Oh, and if you were wanting to (legally) download some of these, my top 3 suggestions would be

    Ben Harper - Morning Yearning
John Butler Trio - What you Want
and try and get the hidden track at the end of 'eskimo' by Damien Rice, the track should be 18 minutes long.
Or search for 'prague', it might come up.

  7. "If you see her, say hello" from Dylan's best album ever, "Blood on the tracks", 1974

Closely followed by "Forever Young", by Dylan, but performed by Joan Baez on her 1978 double concert album, "From every stage"

"Like an old fashioned Waltz", by the late lamented Sandy Denny

    etc
    etc

  10. You speak the truth. Pretty much any slower, acoustic Jimmy Eat World song qualifies for this.

Neil Finn's redition of Better Be Home Soon at last year's ARIAs. Saw it on MusicMax yesterday, and that was just so beautiful.

    Nina Simone - Sinnerman

    For some newer stuff

Bloc Party - Like Eating Glass

    Placebo - English Summer Rain

And such an absolutely brilliant song from a brilliant band: Swing Life Away by Rise Against. It's simple, cut back, and brilliantly written.

  12. "All I want is you" by U2 is a good one...

But there is something about "Everlong" by the Foo Fighters that just gets me... I reckon they could sing it in Russian and it would still get me...

    - If I Were A Carpenter (Swanee)
    - Queen Of Rain (Roxette)
