For those interested, there's some interesting reading at the above link.

But in respect to PTW's, this chart says it all.

Type of vehicle, Percent change - Between census years 2007 and 2012. (Motorcycles, +38.5%)

Number of registered PTW's grew to 4.2% of Australian fleet. Here's the state by state breakdown.

    NSW 188469
    VIC 164778
    QLD 164752
    SA 48709
    WA 107195
    Tas 16446
    NT 6103
    ACT 12836

    TOTAL 709288
  2. The WA figure is interesting, high per capita, wonder what's driving that.
  3. Largest percentage increase was in WA.
  4. Mining boom = more disposable income?
  5. Yeah, all those young tradespeople with spare money.
  6. Camper vans are up there...the grey nomads are on the move. At least they are easy to pass on a bike. Just had a funny image of myself, a grey nomad on a bike passing a grey nomad in a campervan and meeting up at a camp site down the track for a bit of Kumbaya.
  7. There were some grey nomads in town recently in their campervan/RV towing a trailer with bikes on the back. Good on them I say, spending their kids inheritance, way to go. Just don't hold me up on the road
