Are trail bikes an o.k commute??

Discussion in 'Bike Reviews, Questions and Suggestions' started by timbo79, May 14, 2009.

  1. Looking at purchasing a 1985 Yamaha XT 600 trail bike from a friend has around 19 thous. would it make an o.k commuter on the freeway and round town?? are there any pitfalls when it comes to trails on the road??

    Thanx Guys and Girls.

  2. I've got a DR650. I cannot think of a more ideal commuter. Go for it.

I'd qualify that by saying that any 24 yo bike will require a bit of upkeep if used as an everyday ride. Lots of oil changes if nothing else.

Try to use tyres that aren't too knobbly, keep the brakes up to scratch and beware of the tendency of dirt bikes to make even sober old farts ride like complete bell-ends in traffic  .
