That's really cool.
I've seen a couple of custom jobs using VW engines but never a production bike.
Given how familiar the beetle and engine fires are... I'd be worried on one..
That said, it could have been the fact that it was in a beetle that caused it to catch fire.
There was one on display at one of the early WSB or GP races back in the early 90's.
It wasn't as impressive as Lucky Keizer's 5 Litre V-Twin though

The sound it made when it was running was indescribable!
They recently got it running again (well the motor anyway).
Imagine kick starting that....
Beetle engine fires are almost entirely a result of a combination of the installation and poor maintenance (and 99% of Beetles are very poorly maintained). They are easy to prevent.
Heard about but never saw one. Did see a VW powered bmw in Darwin a few years ago and got to ride a Hesketh.
