Any 7-zip users in the house?

Discussion in 'The Pub' started by NiteKreeper, Aug 29, 2012.

  1. Hey all, I'm looking for some syntax help in 7-Zip 9.20 if anyone can assist?
Basically, I can't work out the syntax for the '-m' switch, which allows me to set the compression method for maximum compression (x=9) while I'm updating an existing archive with newer files.

The closest I've come so far is the following, which spits a "parameter is incorrect" error:

    7z u -r -m(9) d:\Zipfile.7z d:\contents\files\*.*

    The context help isn't very:

  2. lose the brackets?
  3. Nope, "parameter is incorrect" again...
I've also tried using angle-brackets but get a "file not found" type error...

But hey, thanks Jazzfan - appreciate any suggestions from here...
  4. Woot! I got it!

Looking at the context help again, I tried the switch 'mx=9' and it's now updating!
So thanks Jazzfan, losing the brackets was the answer!
