alternate master cylinder - cb750 Z - 81 ?

Discussion in 'Technical and Troubleshooting Torque' started by kazjim, Feb 7, 2007.

  1. hey guys, just inherited a cb750 Z - it really needs a new front master cylinder ....

when i'm down at the motorcycle wreckers what mc's should i be on the lookout for ?

was this a "generic" honda part ? - or just for the cb750 ?

looks like the one on my old cbx250, but i'm not certain .....

    ideas ?

  2. Easiest way to find something compatible is to measure the bore size of the origional master cylinder -accurate like ie use some vernier calipers, then head off to the wreckers. Anything with the same bore size will work fine
  3. Most master cylinders are the same for 80s bikes.

If you take yours off it may even have the size written underneath. 5/8" is very common.

Take it to the wreckers and get a better one.

Why does it need a new one? You can get kits for them and one from a wreckers may need a kit anyway.
  4. Its been sitting in the sun for at least 10 years....

Gone cloudy, warped .... the plastics are basically stuffed :)
I'm guessing the internals are just as bad .....
