  1. Ahola from the humid Gold Coast! :D What a funky website as a resource... who knew there were so many cool motorbike lovers....

Due to some issues with a dealership I now have a bike back and armed with 2 months long service leave....I'm ready to leave!

I have set myself what seems to be the impossible task to kit out my KTM 390 Duke (I'm a very short rider.... 4 foot 11.... ouch) to ride from the GC through the bluey mts to Melbourne, ride around Tasmania and then to Adelaide.... then return.

I have 3 weeks to prep it and book. So I am hoping this website will be gold for biker related info!

    Namaste :D

  3. G'day and welcome, ValvolineValvoline. Your trip sounds like an excellent way to spend hard-earned long service leave; I wish you all the best with it and maybe we'll see some photos or a ride report as you go along.

  11. Welcome

    A very nice trip/adventure awaits .

What sort of distances do you want to travel each day? I'd highly recommend you invest in some sort of seat improvement if you can, like an airhawk, it can make all the difference especially on continual long day rides (it sort of looks like you have one on your profile pic?).

  13. That is an epic trip you have planned there. Post up a blog of the ride so we can follow online and maybe some of the local Netriders can greet you on the way and ride a leg with you if you want company or local advice. Regarding the Tassie trip you don't seem to have a rest day in the middle ? My concern would be that you get tired and have a lapse in concentration on our very twisty roads (littered with gravel, dead animals etc. not to mention Chinese tourists who a/can't drive, b/stop in the centre of the road in blind corners for photos , c/don't care or understand the accidents they cause ) One error could see you over the edge of a mountain pass or plastered onto a rock wall in a cutting.
You don't say but I assume you are not attempting this trip solo ? I wouldn't recommend solo travel in Tassie because no one will find you if you do have an "Off" and end up over the edge...... Mobile phone coverage is very patchy due to the mountainous terrain and non existent if you use Vodaphone. Telstra has the best rural signal and Optus is OK in the larger towns and some of the bigger highways.

10/10 for courage and ambition, look forward to following the ride and maybe saying Hi when you hit Tassie's East Coast.

  15. Hi East Coast Cruiser.... Good idea. Blog Started. Check! Your tips taken into consideration. Check! "Rest day" - taking a day off the bike and on my two feet to walk up at Cradle Mt :D Yes, so far riding solo. This is not a trip where many can come at the drop of a hat. Sometimes you have to just get out and do it. Or at least try and fail it.... but at least try. I'll be checking in with fam and some peeps along the way. However if my blog stops... weeeeeeelllll. ;-)
Any company along the way would be sublime and fun!

  16. Gel seat was the BEST $$$ investment - totally right! Nothing sexy about getting off the bike at a pub and trying to dismount and walk like a cowbow.... ;-)

  17. If you are doing this trip solo, I would recommend getting a satellite tracker like the Spot Gen 3 or a personal locator beacon in case you need emergency assistance.

  18. G'day ValvolineValvoline, mighty fine trip you've got planed, some fairly long days and distances, may want to factor in some more rest days so as not to fatigue yourself, especially if you're not use to long days - good luck and keep us posted
